Consolidated account statement (CAS)

The Consolidated Account Statement (CAS) is a single document showing ALL your mutual fund investments across every AMC, fund, and folio. It's free, automated, and the single most useful document for tax filing and portfolio review.

What CAS contains

Who issues CAS

CAMS and KFinTech are the two registrars (RTAs) handling mutual fund operations for India. Between them, they manage nearly all mutual fund folios.

They generate monthly CAS automatically and email it to your registered email. PAN-based identification ensures you get YOUR folios across ALL AMCs.

Why it's invaluable

1. Tax filing: shows total realised capital gains for ITR computation

2. Portfolio audit: see investments you might have forgotten

3. Asset allocation: see your total split across categories

4. Lost folios recovery: rediscover old SIPs from past employers

> Many people have orphaned SIPs they started years ago and forgot. CAS surfaces these.

How to get your CAS

Two methods:

1. Automatic monthly email to your registered email (often goes to spam)

2. Manual download from camsonline.com or kfintech.com

For tax filing time: most platforms also let you download a P&L statement, but it covers only the folios bought through THAT platform. The CAS is the one that shows everything, across all of them.

Annual review checklist

Once a year, generate a full FY CAS:

1. Compute total realised capital gains by category (equity/debt)

2. Compare against ₹1.25 lakh LTCG exemption

3. Plan tax-loss harvesting if needed

4. Consolidate scattered folios

Takeaway. CAS is a monthly free report from CAMS/KFinTech showing ALL your MF holdings across ALL AMCs. Essential for tax filing, portfolio audit, and finding forgotten folios. Generate annually for tax planning. Check your email spam folder. Many investors miss this.
